BEACONs has developed and assembled data sets to assist with conservation planning and research in the boreal. Shapefiles are available at databasin.org unless otherwise indicated.
Boreal Region of Canada
| The study area for the BEACONs Project is the boreal and taiga regions of Canada as defined by the Boreal, Taiga, and Hudson Plain ecozones. |
Regional Planning Units
| Regional Planning Units stratify the boreal into ecologically-defined units based on hydrologic flow and terrestrial composition. |
Catchments
| A catchment is an area of land that drains water and other substances to a common low point or outlet such as a river or wetland. Catchments are used as building blocks to construct ecological benchmarks. This dataset is not yet publically available. |
Lake-edge Density
| Lake-edge density is a measure of the density of terrestrial/aquatic edge and represents the abundance of habitat along large waterbodies (lakes and wide rivers). This dataset is not yet publically available. |
Fire Regionalization
| The fire regionalization is a multivariate spatial characterization of boreal fire regimes based on the behaviour of fire reflected in the Canadian Large Fire Database. This dataset is not yet publically available. |
